This is a film about an extraordinary museum in the Arkhangelsk region village of Verkola. Brother Mikhail’s House appears in no guidebooks or official registers; it exists without advertising or a budget, sustained solely by the enthusiasm, talent, and hard work of its founders, Asiya Petrovna and Vladimir Mikhailovich Abramov. Vladimir is the beloved nephew of the renowned writer Fyodor Abramov, who stepped in to fill the role of a father for him after his own father, Mikhail, died young. There is no museum-like distance here. You can touch things with your hands, eat shangi pastries, drink tea from a samovar, saw firewood, and lie back in the hay in the hayloft to listen to the silence. It is not really a museum at all. It is a soul — the transparent soul of a true Northerner. Everything about them is simple and authentic. That is why hundreds upon hundreds of people stream here endlessly — not to visit a museum, but to visit friends.
