The unhurried life of physicist Vladimir Kalayev changed dramatically after the December 2024 fuel oil tanker disaster in the Kerch Strait. Hastily leaving his laboratory at Skoltech, he went to Anapa as a volunteer to test experimental methods for cleaning up the fuel oil. Around Vladimir, with his frantic energy and enthusiasm, a group of volunteers quickly gathered. The experimental project was named “Kalayev's Design Bureau”. After the New Year holidays, Skoltech arranged an official business trip for the scientist. Since December 28th, Vladimir has been perfecting the cleanup technology amid storms, winds, a polluted coastline, and toxic petroleum products.
