At the meeting with renowned Russian director Nikolay Khomeriki, the discussion will focus on his creative work. He will share his directorial journey with Murmansk audiences, participants, and guests of the Northern Character Film Festival. How did he develop as a master, who influenced his choice of themes, and what is the most interesting and challenging aspect of the filmmaking process?
One of the most significant films in his filmography is White Snow. The film tells the story of the outstanding Russian skier Elena Vyalbe. Work on the script took over three months, and filming took place in various parts of Russia, from Magadan to Kirovsk in the Murmansk region. Participants of the creative session will see the film White Snow and discuss it with Nikolai Khomeriki.
This workshop is about storyboarding as a key tool in visual storytelling. Participants will learn the principles of sequencing shots, composition, and scene transitions. Together with Maxim Polyakov, they will explore various storyboard formats — from quick sketches to detailed shots — and find the answer to the question: what are they used for?
The practical assignment will teach participants how to transform an idea into a clear visual story and master transitions between shots. Upon completion of the master class, participants will be able to plan, present, and implement stories in film, comics, illustrations, and animation.
