Creative session with Gunilla Bresky
The meeting program includes:
Viewing of We Are Still Here (16+) – 78 minutes

We Are Still Here is a film about Sámi identity and culture. My film is a tribute to the 70s, says director Gunilla Bresky. We who were young then were convinced that we could change the world. The artists in the Máze group did that. They changed the world.

Far to the north, in the small village of Máze, there is an old house with a special history. Seven young Sámi artists came here in 1978. They had all grown up in a society that tried to take family, language, and culture away from them. It was time to rewrite history and get revenge. They moved to Máze and started making pictures and organizing exhibitions: “We don't know if people came to look at pictures or to look at us.” When the Norwegian state decided to dam the Alta River that runs through Máze, the artists became part of the resistance.
