In Voronezh he starts working in construction, trying to start a new life, but his principles get him fired. He gets mad over cash grabs at work and starts arguing with his bosses and the police, and gets fired as a result. Michalych invites Zheka to work for the newly established Local War Veterans Union. Zheka agrees.
