Nothern Character festival
Northern Character International Film Festival has been held in Murmansk since 2008. It became the product of the dream of journalists from Russia, Norway, Sweden and Finland to communicate, exchange experiences, form modern audio-visual arts.
The festival is a meeting point for journalists, film-makers, and viewers - people of Murmansk and the region. TV-journalists learn new trends in the screen mastery, directors and scriptwriters catch new stories, and the viewers can communicate directly with the film-makers and express their opinion on the films they see.
In 15 years the festival has widened its geographical borders.
Films from the Northern Character collection can be seen in Moscow, St.Petersburg, Arkhangelsk, Anadir, other Russian towns. Northern Character has also found viewers in the Republic of Belarus, Armenia, Norway, Sweden, Finland. The films were shown on the sails of STS Sedov.
Today the film-makers compete in six competition categories
Feature film, Documentary film under 90 minutes, Documentary film under 60 minutes, Short film, TV show, Television programme.
The XV Northern Character International Film Festival films-in-competition programme 2023 has received films by the film-makers from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Iran, Armenia, the Great Britain, France, the USA, Norway, Malyasia, Israel, China, Latvia, Costa Rica, Russia.
In the center of attention of the festival’s film-makers is the man, who lives in the North, values its harsh beauty, creates and builds, and inspires others to overcome difficulties. A good film triggers the emotions of the audience and brings new ideas and images. An important aim of the festival is developing the cultural life in Murmansk region, supporting the active people of Murmansk and the region, making films and cultural projects, and ready to work for the Russian and international film industry.

Northern Character International Film Festival is organised by Norther Character Production Center with the support of the Presidential foundation for cultural initiatives, Ministry of culture of Russia, Government of Murmansk region.
The festival is organised by a team of enthusiasts and professionals. People of different professions are united by the desire to arrange one of the largest film forums in the European North at the highest level, to show the Murmansk region as one of the most successful cinematographic locations of Russia.
15-year old history of organising the festival is full of bright and interesting events. The Northern Character organisers believe that one of the most important results of the festival is that a highly professional team has been formedand every year new partners and volunteers join it.
